Sample letter re: Filep Karma

Dear Mr. President:

In 2005 FILEP KARMA was sentenced to 15 years’ imprisonment for participating in a ceremony at which the "Morning Star" flag of Papua was raised.

Amnesty International considers Filep Karma a prisoner of conscience, since he has neither used nor advocated violence in the expression of his political views. We are also concerned about the health of Filep Karma.

We welcomed the release last year of YUSAK PAKAGE. Yusak Pakage was arrested along with Filep Karma and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment. Please follow this positive development by also releasing FILEP KARMA immediately and unconditionally.

Sincerely,
